As an artist, one of the highest compliments I can receive is having another artist book me to shoot their wedding. There’s a mutual understanding and respect for ones work, time, and effort. On top of that, their weddings tend to be VERY creative and fun! Right up my alley!
Mariel is a visionary and creates stunning work through graphic design. She even designed & printed her own invitations! Talk about incredible! She and Jamie are a wonderful blend of joy, humor, and love. I just had so much fun talking with them and could do it for hours! When their wedding day rolled around, I was so thrilled to walk into the Frog Pond and see Mariel’s vision come to life. We artists tend to go a little overboard in the DIY section, and although Mariel is no exception, she knows when to hire good people to help bring her vision to life. This is where MLH Events comes in. Megan of MLH Events, took Mariel’s dream and made it a flawless reality! The whole day dripping with gorgeous details and moved with a perfectly timed grace.
I can ensure you that everyone at Mariel & Jamie’s wedding had a fantastic time! Even my rockin’ team and I couldn’t help but put our cameras down at the end of the night and tear the dance floor up a bit! Thank you to Mariel & Jamie for trusting me to capture your vision & dream. It was absolutely spectacular!
XOXOXO,
Mabyn
This is the first time I actually brought along my OWN cinematographer! That’s right ladies & gents, Gina shot her first ever wedding! I’m not sure she’ll be continuing to do more, but I can tell you that she’s done 3 this season and loves them! It’s amazing what can happen in just a few short months. I’m so excited for Gina and her new found talent, she shot & edited Mariel & Jamie’s Love Story with out an ounce of help. I can’t say she’s for hire yet, but who knows what can happen in the 2014 wedding season?! 🙂 Congrats Gina!

How did your fiance propose?
Jamie proposed on his birthday in order to catch me off guard. We went to Asti for dinner which wasn’t planned thanks to me being sick and asking him to abort our other dinner plans in Skaneateles. When we arrived at Asti we were seated by a fireplace in a private room upstairs. Jamie had put the ring on his pinky finger when I wasn’t looking and proceeded to drink his wine until I noticed a sparkly object. I thought I was hallucinating from my cold medicine but when I realized I wasn’t, the rest was history. I was completely surprised.
Tell me a bit about the planning process for your wedding (how did you pick the venue, colors, funny stories, etc..):
Since I’m a graphic designer the planning process was hard because I’m full of too many ideas. We knew we wanted a venue that we could have enough time for artistic freedom and that would also be private which is why we picked The Frog Pond. The theme of our wedding was story telling and we choose when at all possible to use local vendors first.
What was the most memorable moment(s) of your day?
The moment we read our personal vows to each other and later on seeing all of our friends and family be together in the same place celebrating. We witnessed people who never dance, dance. It was as if the quote we’ve seen so many times before was happening the day of our wedding. “Dance as though no one is watching you, Love as though you have never been hurt before, Sing as though no one can hear you, Live as though heaven is on earth.”
Funniest memory from your wedding day?
When we lost Jamie in the woods before the first look was pretty funny. Also the fact that the groomsmen had no idea how to put suspenders on. My dad had to help all the “men” get ready 🙂
If you had to do it all over again would you change anything?
I might have purchased my letterpress sooner so I could have printed additional items for the wedding 🙂
Any advice for future bride & grooms?
Do a first look! It was the best decision we made to ease our nerves. It was nice to have a moment to each other without everyone around. My other advice would be no matter what hire an event planner especially for the day of the wedding. MLH Events was amazing and Megan went above and beyond in carrying out my vision for the day. I was able to get ready and know that everything was going to look and be perfect. Lastly, I would say don’t let Pinterest overwhelm you take a few ideas that you really love and tackle those and if you have time for other ideas go ahead. Don’t feel as though you have to do it all.
What was your favorite part about working with Mabyn Ludke Photography?
Mabyn is amazing! She is truly a professional and went above and beyond on our wedding day! Her work speaks for itself and she is a master of her craft. Mabyn captures moments in time so naturally and her love of details is impeccable.
