My favorite photograph of my parents is a framed black and white photo that hangs in their bedroom. It was taken at the college where they met during a fall parade by a friend who happened to be taking photography 101. They both can still remember what the other one was wearing almost 50 years later.
Back then you didn’t have a scheduled engagement session before you wedding, but this photograph serves to remind me WHY I shoot engagement sessions and WHY I believe every couple should partake in a session. It’s a way to capture your love for each other without all of the pomp and circumstance of your wedding day. It’s a way to relax and simple enjoy each others company. It’s a marker for the end of one chapter in life and the beginning of another. Once you’re married, life changes. Engagement sessions are a beautiful way to stop time and remember and honor the “before.”
On my last visit home, I told my mother that when they pass away that I didn’t care about anything else in the house except that picture. It’s the way I see my parents every day, beautiful and in love.
XOXOXO,
Mabyn
