Timberlake Earth Sanctuary

Daniel and I visited Timberlake Earth Sanctuary for Grace & Reed’s engagement session. It’s so beautiful there, I could spend hours taking pictures and still discover more. It’s easy to see why Grace and Reed love it so much! With lush green forests, wide open fields, and the sounds of nature surrounding us. It’s a treasure! I’m surprised that this spot is only 10 minutes from the hustle and bustle of Greensboro, NC. It feels like we’re ages away from civilization!

Engagement Session Fears

We met Grace and Reed at Katie & Sam’s wedding last year. So when they contacted us about their wedding it was an absolute delight to reconnect with them! At first they weren’t sure they wanted to have an engagement session. A lot of people don’t love the idea of being in front of the camera more than they have to. These two had nothing to worry about because they’re naturals! You see the key to being comfortable in your photographs is to be yourself. We’ll guide you where we can, give you tips on how to pose. However, your personality & love for one another is what truly makes your session shine! It always takes some time, but by the end of the session you’ll be completely comfortable. It also doesn’t hurt to bring an adorable distraction like Grace & Reed’s Greyhound Ruby! She was so sweet and a great companion to bring along and interact with!

We loved getting to know Grace and Reed and I can’t wait to for their wedding in just a few months!

Walnut Lane

Walnut Lane is a sweet little venue located outside of Greensboro, NC. When Alexa’s Photography asked me to 2nd shoot, I didn’t hesitate to say yes! I adore Alexa & she always has the sweetest clients! Brittany & Sean are no exception. Their Walnut Lane wedding was completely dreamy!
When you walk into a 2nd shooting position, it’s sometimes very odd. Normally you don’t have a relationship with the couple. There’s always a little bit of awkward “hi stranger shooting my wedding” going on. Thankfully that never lasts long & Brittany & Sean were so very welcoming.

That day Alexa and I witnessed the union of two souls into one. It’s always a joy to remember why our marriages matter. Seeing that love & commitment refreshes my heart every time. After the ceremony we stole Brittany & Sean away for some sweet photo taking time. It was sweet to see their excitement and joy of finally becoming husband and wife! They rejoined their friends and danced the night away with giants smiles on their lips!

All in all, this was an awesome wedding day that I just loved being part of! Thank you Alexa for bringing me along!

XOXOXO,
Mabyn

Tips for Brides

I still remember my mother caressing my hair as I sobbed on the floor of her tiny sewing room. My dress didn’t fit, she didn’t know how to fix it, and it was 2 weeks away from my wedding! How was I suppose to get married without a wedding dress? It wasn’t just the dress either, as I sobbed, I cried out all of the overwhelming stress of planning a wedding. There were so many details still to be taken care of in such a short amount of time. I had no clue how it was all going to come together.

Mabyn Ludke in her wedding dress at the Inn at Crestwood in Blowing Rock NC.

“EVERYTHING about my dress stressed me out, that is until the day of the wedding when I slipped it on and felt like the bride I was meant to be. ”

Somehow tho when the day arrived, all of those little details did come together and I was able to let it all go and have the most spectacular wedding day ever! I am so grateful for the family & friends that surrounded me, encouraged me, & gave me some incredible advice to help me through the planning process. And I want to share that advice with YOU! So take a moment and watch this short little video on things that I learned both from the decade of knowledge as a wedding photographer & from my own personal wedding planning experience:

Here are my 4 tips to having a Stress Free wedding day!

Here’s a little recap for you:

#4 – Hire a planner. I am not a planner by trade, but I 100% believe in their value. When Daniel and I got married, our planner brought up so many things that we hadn’t even thought of AND took care of them for us. She brought up things like “what are your wedding priorities and how do you want your guests to feel?” Woah those were things we hadn’t even thought of! She also helped us find the perfect linens and lavender wholesaler. Even tho I’m a wedding photographer, I didn’t have those connections. Our wedding planner was an invaluable member of our wedding team.

#3 – Make decisions together. A lot of grooms pretend like they don’t care about the details, but you’d be surprised that they really do. This day is about you both and making decisions together at this stage is perfect practice for what your marriage will be like. Starting with a priority list for each of you and coming together is something we learned for our wedding planner and it really helped us put our finances in the right place. Which also eased a lot of stress when it came to smaller things that didn’t have the sway.

#2- Surround yourself with healthy people. There is also a lot of pressure to bring everyone in your entourage on board in your wedding planning process. Just remember that each one of those people comes with their own opinions on how things should be done. Only bring those who have a healthy outlook on things into your planning process. I.E. Save the drama for your mama! You don’t need “Yes” persons either. You need people who are going to help you come up with solutions to problems, who are going to celebrate with you, not bring you down, and those who will ultimately defer to what YOU want for YOUR wedding day. Some people you have to have in your wedding process. Parent especially will have a say if they’re paying for things, but having other diplomatic people around you will also help with parents who might have their own idea of what your wedding day will be like.

#1 – Don’t sweat the small stuff. When the day arrives nothing ever goes exactly to plan. Be flexible and don’t take things too seriously. If the florals aren’t exactly the shade of mauve you were looking for, shrug it off. You’re JUST as married to the love of your life. Have fun with those around you who are there to celebrate with you. Soak up the memories of a day that goes way to fast.

I hope this little video helped calm your heart & mind and also gave you some ideas as how to blaze ahead in your planning process!
Your wedding day is going to be amazing! We have no doubt!

4 Tips for a Stress Free Wedding Day!

The air was thick with anticipation as the crowd awaited Brook’s arrival. She moved with grace as she traversed the stair case that seemed to go on for miles. Finally she made it to the bottom and was greeted by her father, whom up until that point had been Brook’s prince. He gently helped her on with her crystal laden heels and walked her slowly down the isle to meet her new prince and husband to be, Drew. Tears of joy couldn’t be held back as this event, years in the making, finally came to be. A true happily ever after if there ever was one!

What a absolute joy to have been present at such a gorgeous event! Daniel and I soaked up every smile, hug, and tear. Tina of Love & Honey transformed the Castle McCulloch into a true fairy tale space complete with candelabras! They danced the night away to the Jason Adamo Band who shook the whole castle to it’s core with their addictive music! Daniel and obsessed over how good they were!

Then came the time for Brook & Drew to run away for a short time with the two of us! Woohoo! They braved the crisp autumn evening for all of their wedding portraits. It’s not often that we have couples who want just night photographs, but somehow it fit the whole romantic theme of their day. Thank you Brook & Drew for allowing us to capture your epic fairy tale! We loved every moment!

XOXOXO,
Mabyn
