There’s nothing like a wedding where absolutely everyone oozes pure joy! From the moment I stepped onto the grounds of Belhurst Castle you could feel a buoyancy that only joy can bring! Neither Rain nor Car issues not humidity was going to take anything away from Katie and David’s amazing day! We started out with one of the sweetest first looks ever on the docks. David just couldn’t stop smiling once he saw his beautiful bride! We snagged a few gorgeous blue sky shots with the happy couple and their wedding party before the clouds started to move on in. We got Katie inside just before a sun shower …which resulted in a gorgeous double rainbow right infront of their ceremony spot!!! Talk about blessings on your wedding day! The rain didn’t last long and their ceremony went off with out a hitch with Katie’s brother officiating! We managed to squeak in all of the family formals right before the real rain set in! So we opted to do the rest of their newly wed shots around the castle…twist my arm! Belhurst is GORGEOUS!
Now I have to talk separately about their party…I have never in my experience as a wedding photographer seen so many crazy people in my life! 😉 Katie & David’s guest sure knew how to get down! There was everything from an ode to Meatloaf to Party Rock and EVERYONE was dancing! I had a giant grin on my face the whole night! Thank you so much Katie & David! I want to bring you guys to every party I have! 🙂
xoxoxo,
Mabyn
How did you meet?
We met at a Christmas party in Delaware, where we were both attending graduate school. Dave was sitting off to the side being quiet and I
didn’t know too many people so we started talking to each other. He was really sweet and allowed me to sit on the armrest of his chair.
Since Dave was in a different department, I didn’t think we would see each other afterwards….however, his friends found me and invited me
to his birthday dinner the following week and we started dating soon afterwards 🙂
How did your fiance propose?
It was on my Mom’s birthday and they had come to visit for the weekend. We went to dinner and then went home to relax. As we were
getting ready for bed he pulls me to him and says how much he loves me and can’t imagine going through life without me in it. He got down on
one knee and asked me to be his 🙂
Tell me a bit about the planning process for your wedding (how did you
pick the venue, colors, funny stories, etc..):
We love going wine tasting and the Finger Lakes were such a beautiful location. One weekend, we were wine tasting and looking at potential
venues…after seeing Belhurst, nothing else could compare. How could we beat getting married in a castle? The purple and green colors are
my favorite colors and fit the winery setting so well. The date was chosen because of the holiday weekend for our traveling guests and it
was far enough in advance that we could get the vendors of our choice 🙂
What details at your wedding had special significance?
All the center pieces were placed in laboratory glassware which relates to our scientific background. Also, there was a small
sapphire ring tied to the bridal bouquet (my something borrowed, old and blue) that was given to my mother from her best friend, who I was
named after.
What was the most memorable moment(s) of your day?
There was so many amazing moments from that day…the rainbows that came out for the ceremony, standing at the altar looking at each
other, my sister’s speech, looking out on the dance floor and just seeing everyone dancing and having a blast (including our photographers!)
If you had to do it all over, would you change anything?
No…everything came together great.
Funniest memory from your wedding day?
Some of the highlights were seeing Mabyn sliding on her back on the dance floor to get photographs. Our 2 year old ring bearer ‘break’
dancing on the floor and lastly, one of our guests coming up to me at the end of night showing me his pants had split from all the dancing he was doing 🙂
What was your favorite wedding purchase?
Besides our photographers? I would have to say Rick, our DJ.
Where did you go on your honeymoon?
Kaua’i – it was amazing and we highly recommend it for anyone thinking of going!
