Brace yourself friends, this is a lengthy video on a subject to which I am deeply attached. Finding your WHY in wedding or portrait photography is so important to me and interwoven into my DNA. So I wont do a huge intro to the video other than you can break it down into 3 parts:
1) How I got my start/ my testimony
2) Going deeper into what my WHY means
3) How my WHY affects my work
So there you have it, my weepy self & all! Thank you for watching that entire video. I promise the rest of them wont be that long. But I can’t promise there wont be more snotty tears…#sorrynotsorry
If you didn’t have the time or just found my sniffles too much, then here’s a little recap of the video:
I wasn’t one of those photographers who had a camera in her hand from birth. I actually stumbled upon it through my college exploits where it became a hobby. During my senior year of hell, I decided to give my life to Jesus Christ. He’s the one one who urged me to go back to school for photography & my life changed forever.
God calling me to wedding photography was how my passion became fueled. It was the start to a deeper WHY. It wasn’t until years later when a dear friend passed away that I realized what my true WHY was. Sitting at his funeral & watching a slideshow of the photos that I had been privileged to capture rooted my WHY. I capture legacies for people & families. Our lives are so very short and having sweet moments captured forever is paramount to my existence.
I wont lie, moving my business twice in 4 years has been a rocky road. I have almost given MLP up multiple times, but my WHY keeps me going. It keeps me passionate about photography and I know I’ll never be able to walk away. My WHY has carried me through the hard times and it will continue to carry me through all of the good ones as well.
Your WHY needs to be rock solid. It may take awhile to figure out what it is, but when you find it, you’ll grasp onto it with all of your being. It will be your anchor to how you see the world & how you photograph it.
I consider this video my flagship video for a lot more content to come. I know I’ve dabbled in the education world for little while, posting blog posts or videos here & there. However, I’ve committed that 2018 will be a year where I give back all that I have learned.
I would love to hear from all of you, what’s your WHY? Post it in the comments below!
Thank you for watching & I’ll see you again very soon!
XOXOXO,
Mabyn
