You may recall a sweet little wedding nestled in the Appalachian mountains about 45 minutes from Asheville that Daniel & I shot last summer. Jenna & David are worship leaders and they contacted us to shoot their incredibly sweet & beautiful Burnsville, NC wedding. After most weddings, I send a few photos to the vendors who helped create such a wonderful event. We love lovin’ on our vendors and we appreciate all they do so the least we could do is share a few photos with them. Little did we know that this simple act would lead to quite the chain reaction!

Our images were shared from vendor to writer to magazine editor! We ended up getting a full page feature in Mountain Escapes Magazine! A completely unexpected and wonderful surprise! We also landed an invite to the 2017 Burnsville Bridal Expo. After all of that love, how could we say no?! So we packed up our photos in the car and headed to what is quickly becoming one of my favorite little towns, Burnsville!

Amelia Hoilman of White Falls Catering did an incredible job of setting the stage for all of the talented vendors to showcase their specialties. We had a great time introducing ourselves and getting to know the local community. I’m a HUGE fan of supporting local and this community sure knows how to do it right! On top of the beautiful setup in the Burnsville Town Center, they invited West Entertainment to get the party going, & had a hilarious cake smash where brides clawed through layers and layers of cake to find the ring hidden inside! It was quite possibly one of the nicest & most entertaining bridal shows I’ve ever attended!

As some of you may know, 2017 marks my 10th year as a wedding photographer. That means I’ve officially been shooting weddings for a DECADE! Okay, now if looking in the mirror didn’t make me feel old, this sure does! However, it’s a milestone I will gratefully celebrate! To work at something I love so much for so long, to have others support me, to be able to see hundreds of joyful brides and grooms as I scroll through my website look back at me, it’s a feeling of satisfaction and peace that I can’t aptly describe.

Most of the time when we attended a bridal show we give away an engagement session. This year however, I wanted to go big in celebration of 10 years! So we opted to give away a wedding collection! WHAT?! I know! We’re crazy! So it is with much joy & excitement that I get to announce that the winner of our Wedding Collection Giveaway is Margaret Casey & Jackie Sprinkle!!!!! Congrats!!!! We’ll be sending you an official “You won lets get our happy dance on” email and we can setup a time to discuss all the details! EEEE! YAY! This is so much fun!

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth. We can’t wait to shoot more beautiful weddings in the WNC area and have an amazing 2017 season!

XOXOXO,
Mabyn

Jen and Sean are lovers of the unique! Their wedding was a mix of whimsy, color, and FUN! The Belhurst castle was such a perfect setting for this Philly couple. You may remember their You + Me session when I went to visit them in their home town! They gave me the grande tour of some of their favorite Philly spots! So you can imagine my excitement when I drove up to the Belhurst and got to give Jen a HUGE hug! The day proceeded beautifully! The sun was shining and people seemed content watching this happy couple tie the knot, despite the heat! They even had this great bluegrass band provide the music during their ceremony which was the perfect touch

! Once they were officially wifey and hubby we spent some time with the family and bridal party but we wanted to save the super special couple shots until the sun went down a bit more. I live for that yummy buttery light, and their formals are the perfect example of why! Their party was amazing! I shouldn’t have expected anything less from them. They danced and danced and danced and I had so much fun out on the floor with them! It’s couples like Jen and Sean that make my job so worth it. Not only are they so in love that it makes it easy to take gorgeous pictures of them, but I feel like we’ve been friends for ages! That alone is worth it’s weight in gold! I get to spend my days capturing beautiful moments of my friends happiest days! I will never stop being so thankful to do this every day! 🙂

How did your fiance propose? Sean proposed while we were vacationing in Ogunquit, Maine in August 2010. We were aboard the “Silverlining” sail boat for a sunset cruise when he pulled an envelope out of our
picnic basket. The envelope contained a poem that Sean had written (I had no idea that Sean could write poetry!) called “Finding the Right Girl.” At the end of the poem, Sean presented a gorgeous filagree ring!
Tell me a bit about the planning process for your wedding (how did you pick the venue, colors, funny stories, etc..): The colors for the wedding were inspired by what I imagined the forest in “A Mid Summer
Night’s Dream” to look like. We also wanted the wedding to feel like “us.” We used a lot of our own items and items belonging to our families in the dĂ©cor. We picked Belhurst Castle because it had beautiful grounds and it (and Geneva) offered our guests who were traveling a place to congregate together and enjoy the beauty of Upstate, NY.
What was the most memorable moment(s) of your day? Walking down the aisle and seeing Sean for the first time on our wedding day! This moment was made even sweeter by the music that was provided by my talented friends, Jess & Jess who sang a gorgeous version of “Time after Time.”
Funniest memory from your wedding day? My parents had two bats flying around their room the night before the wedding-it wasn’t so funny for them at the time, but we get a kick out of it now!
If you had to do it all over again would you change anything? Nothing
What was your favorite part about working with Mabyn Ludke Photography? We loved each of our interactions with Mabyn! She was professional, creative and can create magic with her camera and her
eye for photos! We especially loved that she was willing to come to Philly for our engagement shoot- we had a blast & have so many wonderful photos of the spots where Sean and I fell in love.

What do you get when you mix, good looks, charm, and ridiculousness in one couple? You get Liz and Mike, two of the coolest people on the planet!!! Seriously, when we met in Starbucks about a year ago we instantaneously became friends! I know I’m repeating myself from their You + Me post, but I fell in love with these guys so I can’t help but gush! 😉

Finally, their wedding day came along! I’d only been waiting alllll season for it! And after a gorgeous September, what happens? Their day was 50 degrees and rainy!
Now the average couple might get really upset and worry that the rain will ruin their day. Not Liz & Mike! They were totally down for any and all outdoor shots, rain or shine! Is it any wonder I fell in love?! So they not only braved the rain, but cold and broken dresses as well! Yeah!  I know right? They’re completely amazing!

One of a bride’s biggest nightmares is something happening to the dress right before the wedding. Well guess what happened right before the wedding? The zipper on her dress fell off! Did Liz freak out? Did she throw a fit? NOPE! Calm as a cucumber we called Spybaby Boutique and their amazing seamstress fixed the dress in 20 minutes flat! (Cue Superman music here!) We still had plenty of time to get her to the church!

The rest of the day went as smooth as butter, with crazy interloods of Mike jumping in puddles or bench pressing Liz! The reception at Dinosaure BBQ was rockin’ as always! I especially loved when Liz, Mike, and their wedding party jumped up on stage and started throwing beads like it was Mardi Gras!
Thank you Liz and Mike for choosing me to, not only capture your special moments, but become your friend!

Bride & Groom: How did you meet?
We met during orientation at Le Moyne College. Mike’s roommate went to my high school.
How did your fiancé propose?
I had just finished my last final exam of my second year at SU Law and we were excited about leaving for a two week vacation in Italy the next morning. I was craving ice cream so we stopped at Gannon’s Isle in the Valley, but it was chilly so after we got our ice cream we got back in the car and started driving around. Mike drove up to Le Moyne and we finished our ice cream on a bench outside Grewen. This seemed pretty ordinary to me because when the weather is nice, Mike and I sometimes venture up to the benches in front of Grewen Hall at Le Moyne College to talk. This particular night was rather chilly, but Mike and I sat there talking about how excited we were for our trip. Then, out of the blue, Mike says that he doesn’t want me to think that he is going to propose in Italy. I was speechless for a moment since I wasn’t expecting him to. Mike kept talking and suddenly pulls out a ring box, gets on one knee and says that he doesn’t want to ask me in Italy because he wants to ask me right then and there! I was shocked and of course, I said yes 
Tell me a bit about the planning process for your wedding (how did you pick the venue, colors, funny stories, etc..):
Mike and I really like food, especially barbeque, and we wanted a more casual wedding reception. Dinosaur Bar-B-Que was a logical choice and once we saw the Upstairs room we were sold on our wedding venue.
What details at your wedding had special significance?
My dad put together a “Love Chest” based upon an old Italian tradition. About one week before the wedding, my dad asked me and Mike to write letters to each other. The letters were sealed and my father placed them in the box along with a bottle of wine and two glasses. The box has two keys, one for each of us. The box can only be opened on two occasions: (1) on our tenth wedding anniversary or (2) if we ever happen to hit a rocky patch, the box can be opened so that either of us can read the letter we wrote to the other.
What was the most memorable moment(s) of your day?
When the zipper on my dress broke as I was getting in it – very shortly before we were supposed to leave for the Church! I will never forget how amazing my bridesmaids were and the great suggestion that Mabyn made reminding us that Spybaby was right around the corner! Maria, Spybaby’s amazing seamstress, not only fixed the dress, but came back to the hotel to help me get in and button it up! I am positive I witnessed a small miracle!
If you had to do it all over, would you change anything?
Not a thing! I even enjoyed the rain.
Funniest memory from your wedding day?
While we were taking outdoor photos before the reception, it was really chilly and it started to rain a bit. Nate, Mike’s six-year-old nephew, sat in the limo and rolled down the window every few minutes to let us know how warm he was inside the limo.
What was your favorite (or most handy?!)wedding purchase?
Umbrellas! They may not be my favorite, but they really came in handy! I have to give the credit to Mike for finding some cute umbrellas for the ladies.
Where did you go on your honeymoon?
Aruba, we stayed at Bucuti and Tara Resorts. They have a phenomenal beach.
Any advice for future bride & grooms?
It all works out in the end!

Liz was all smiles despite the crazy! She’s so amazing! I especially loved when Mike snuck a quick peek in the room before Liz got dressed.

Liz & Mike’s Love Story

When I was a little girl I loved fairy tales. The dresses, the adventure, but most of all the prince whom the pricess always married in the end! As I grew up my perception of fairy tales became jaded. “My knight in shining armor turned out to be a loser dressed in tin foil” ~ unknown. That quote can be loosly applied to my relationships. The older I got, the less in love I was with fairy tales. Don’t get me wrong, I am still in love with love! Why else would I do what I do? I am in love with genuine, unconditional, and profound love…the fairies, as far as I was concerned, could keep to themselves.

That was of course until I heard Emily & KJ’s story! It has restored my faith that true fairy tales exist!

I’ve known Emily for several years now, I’ve seen her through some bogus relationships and she’s seen me through some of my own. We’ve laughed, danced, and commiserated together. Then, after a lot of deliberation (and a not so great break up) Emily decided to move to Binghamton for art school.

While she was there, she was connected with a BASIC group which in turn connected her with the United with Christ Church in Johnson City. During her time at the church she befriended many people who kept telling her about this guy, KJ. Unfortunately he was in the military and wouldn’t be on leave until February. Emily, had plans to go to Italy in January with a one way ticket. So she wrote it off and continued with her plans. Little did Emily know, that prior to her even arriving at church, the pastors & leadership were in continuous prayer for KJ’s wife and when she arrived everyone instantly knew that she was it! To everyone’s surprise, KJ came home on leave in October. It’s then that he met Emily and both of their lives instantly changed. Less than a year later they’re happier than either of them can imagine as husband and wife!

Their wedding day reflected their personal fairy tale, complete with wedding favors describing the whole thing. Though traffic and storm clouds threatened to foil their day, it went off with out a hitch. The sun cam out for group formals & we partied the night away! I was compltely blessed and honored to be the one capturing it all. I am so thrilled for Em & KJ! Let their story be a reminder to us all that fairy tales really do exist!

How did you meet?
We both attended a BASIC Bible fellowship meeting, and were invited by a mutual friend to go to dinner afterward. I had just left ballroom practice and was disgustingly sweaty, and he appeared out of nowhere, surprising everyone here on a two week leave from Afghanistan. When we met everything clicked. The day before he left to go back to Afghanistan he asked me on a date that would be postponed for 4 months.
How did your fiance propose?
For two months straight the weather didn’t do anything but rain. He wanted to take me on a picnic, but the rain would cause a problem; so, he prayed that God would part the clouds and He did! We had a huge assortment of sandwiches, fruit, cheese, crackers and of course wine. After we ate we were laying down and he slipped off a ring he gave me for Christmas that needed to be serviced. He asked about that needed to be fixed, and left it on his finger. He then slipped a ring on my finger (I thought it was my ring) but when he moved I saw something shine that I knew wasn’t normal. By the time I figured out that it was a different ring he was on one knee and asked me to marry him! 🙂
Tell me a bit about the planning process for your wedding (how did you pick the venue, colors, funny stories, etc..):
The date, we actually picked around the wonderful Mabyn Ludke’s schedule because we wanted to get married sooner rather than later (why wait!). The colors I didn’t officially pick until we found the Bridesmaid dresses. The venue was because the place was beautiful and the price was right. We both LOVE wine, so we knew we wanted a wine themed wedding. I made everything for the tables and place card holders and thus needed a lot of corks; so inevitably, we drank a lot of wine in the three months of planning! 😉
What details at your wedding had special significance?
Vino Vino Vino and more Vino! The majority of the wine bottles on the tables were consumed by us!
What was the most memorable moment(s) of your day?
Well, I can think of a number of events: Like the torrential downpour before the wedding; My mom giving me a 150 year old five generation heirloom ring for my borrowed, blue and old; The hotel for the wedding night canceling at the last minute making the groom barely on time; Him getting stuck in traffic on the parkway; My dad giving me a twirl at the end of the aisle; Forgetting to put out the communion for the ceremony so we did an impromptu silent vow exchange/ prayer over each other while the special song played; My dad giving a blessing over us and slightly roasting KJ’s phone call to set up a time to ask for my hand; We had Mabyn, the best man and his wife along with KJ’s older brother in the limo with us.. It was an EPIC time!!; The toasts by my Dad, KJ’s Dad, my sister’s- the maid and matron, as well as the Best Man; KJ’s dad singing an Irish styled song after his toast; My dance with my Dad was pretty amazing; Our first dance was incredible- it was us. I could go on and on.. 🙂
If you had to do it all over, would you change anything?
I really don’t think we would change a thing.
Funniest memory from your wedding day?
How can we pick? Just go back to the previous list!
What was your favorite wedding purchase?
My dress! It was perfect from the second it was zipped up the first time!
Where did you go on your honeymoon?
On a cruise in the western Caribbean. It was beautiful all the way around!
Any advice for future bride & grooms?
Just roll with the punches.. Things are going to happen, just go with it and be flexible; if you concentrate on the little things you’ll get stressed out. Oh, and HIRE MABYN!!!!
