If I had to describe this summer the prime words would be hot and bright! There were very few wedding days where rain threatened to throw our picture plans into a tizzy. Liz & Alton’s wedding day was picture perfect! Literally! As you scroll down you’ll see what I mean, bright blue skies, white fluffy clouds, a gorgeous orange sunset…it’s a good thing Liz and Al like me so much, otherwise I think they’d get sick of all the different photos I had them take! ūüėČ

Their love story wasn’t just picture perfect because of the weather. Those two are always thinking about little ways to make me happy! Number one, Liz and her girls had these great parasoles that really added something special to their formals, number two was the guys wearing these great heather gray suits! I’ve been seeing these a lot more lately and it’s a great choice every time! Add in some bow ties and you’ve got a classic look with just a dash of vintage. Al definitely pulled off that cool Mad Men look that he channeled in their You + Me session!¬†¬†Oh yeah and did I mention Liz’s dress? Did I MENTION HER DRESS? Well her dress and I fell in love immediately, I mean c’mon…ruffles AND feathers! A girl can’t go wrong!

So other than the fact that I was super trigger happy (click! click! twitch! twitch!) I had an amazing time capturing all of the joy and beauty that surrounded this fabulous couple! Thank you so much Liz and Alton! It was an honor to capture your gorgeous day!

How did your fiance propose? He proposed on Valentine’s Day. I was in my pajamas and we were on our way to get take out food! It was perfect:)
Tell me a bit about the planning process for your wedding (how did you pick the venue, colors, funny stories, etc..): I really wanted a very classy, vintage look. The whole planning process was about a year and a half! It was allot of fun planning every detail and all worth seeing it all come together perfectly.
What was the most memorable moment(s) of your day? Probably first walking down the isle at the church. The cathedral was breathtaking and more than I could have imagined.
Funniest memory from your wedding day? Probably seeing my bridesmaid, Kerry, catch the bouquet. She couldn’t have looked more terrified!:)
Any advice for future bride & grooms? Trust your instincts and everything will come together as it should. Don’t stress over the little stuff. It won’t matter in the end.
What was your favorite part about working with Mabyn Ludke Photography? Mabyn is not only an incredibly talented photographer, she is an amazing person. She was caring, funny, personable, and helped me with sooo many details on my wedding day! I could not have asked for a more amazing photographer to not only capture such beautiful photos, but to be with us on our special day. I am so thankful we found her:) We love you Mabyn!

It’s not every day you get to shoot an engagement session + an actual¬†proposal! Talk about an awesome way to pop the question! When Ashley contacted me about doing a You + Me session she and Steven weren’t even engaged yet. She knew it was coming and that their wedding would be in Virginia. She loved my work so much that she scheduled a You + Me session before it was even official! This is why I love my clients! ūüėÄ

We started up at Syracuse University and had a great time touring the campus, since Steven had never been. We then ventured down to Franklin Square to do part 2 of the session. Just as I’m positioning Ashley for the next shot, I see Steven get down on one knee and pull out a tiny box! I bring my camera up just in time for Ashley to turn around and get the official question! Ah! I was so excited to have captured it all right then and there! Now they’ll have those moments forever to cherish! I tell you there’s never a dull moment in this job! Thank you so much Ashley & Steven for choosing me to capture the beginning of your love story!

Mabyn

P.S. Ashley left a comment on Facebook with a little more of the story that I thought I’d share: ¬†“Additional information…I WAS TOTALLY SURPRISED! I knew he was going to ask my dad’s permission at breakfast the next morning in person while in Syracuse. I knew he’d never ask without asking permission first… Little did I know my parents were in on it and had already given their blessing! :)” – Ashley

A beautiful princess, a dashing prince (not in disguise ;oP) and a¬†grandiose¬†castle where the princess walked down the asile in her gorgeous gown. That’s what Holly & Jeff’s wedding was like, a perfect fairytale right out of a book! Holly’s hard work¬†definitely¬†paid off, all of her details made me feel like I was right in the middle of their fairy tale. Add in Jeff’s sweet touches, like surprising Holly wearing a cowboy hat and picking one of Holly’s favorite artists for their first dance, made it all the more personal and sweet. The¬†Immaculate¬†Conception¬†Cathedral¬†downtown is as epic as you can get in Syracuse and the Lakeshore did a fantastic job as always! Their day was just so sweet and beautiful and the best part is that Holly & Jeff were so willing to put up with my crazy schemes for epic photos! They even ran through a giant cloud of seagulls, not once, but TWICE in 90+ degree weather! Well their¬†exertion¬†paid off, because look at those seagulls fly!¬†I had such a wonderful time documenting Holly & Jeff’s Story Book day! Thank you so much!

How did your fiance propose? He did it on a cruise vacation we took in May of 2010. The boat had just docked at Key West Florida and we were getting ready to go out for the day. Jeff insisted he spray me with sunscreen so that I wouldn’t get burned. When he pointed the bottle of spray on sunscreen at my face, he then asked me to close my eyes so I wouldn’t get any in my eyes. When I opened my eyes, he was down on one knee. There were no doubts in my mind what I would say.
Tell me a bit about the planning process for your wedding (how did you pick the venue, colors, funny stories, etc..): On the airplane ride back, I bought a bridal magazines and a notebook. I think I had our colors, date, guest list, and a rough sketch of our centerpieces in a few hours. I guess I was just a little excited. We ended up picking dusty lilac for the color ofthe bridesmaids dresses because it was my mom’s wedding color. I also always wanted a fairytale-like wedding in a castle. When I walked into the Cathedral there was no turning back.
What was the most memorable moment(s) of your day? I think the most memorable moment of the day was when Jeff surprised me for our first dance song by putting on a cowboy hat and picking a country song by my favorite artist. I grew up in a small town so country music was a big part of my life. Jeff on the other hand..not so country. So for him to pick my all time favorite band and dance with a cowboy hat on totally shows how much he loves me. I would also have to say another very memorable moment was dancing with my dad. Of course I didn’t even make it through half the song before crying.
If you had to do it all over again would you change anything? The day was so perfect and fairy-tale like. I wouldn’t have changed a thing, unless I could have made time go slower.
Any advice for future bride & grooms? You have all this adrenaline, excitement, worry: will I look okay? Will everything go okay? What if?.?s and so on. Then the day comes and when you see your soon to be husband/wife, time stops still and nothing else matters. Looking Jeff into the eyes when walking down the aisle and when saying our vows, I felt like the happiest girl in the world. Seeing him standing there made everything perfect! no matter if our limo bus broke down the night before or any other details which didn’t go as planned.
What was your favorite part about working with Mabyn Ludke Photography? Mabyn is by far the most amazing photographer I know. She is incredibly creative with her work and puts a 110 percent effort into making your day run smoothly. She knows how to capture lifetime memories, is so easy and organized to work with, flexible and adaptable to your wishes, and her contagious energy adds even more excitement to your big day. You know those weddings where everyone has been on pins and needles waiting for this day to arrive? Where the emotions are running so high that it’s like an electric current is in the air? That is the best way I can describe the energy that surrounded Alexa & Mike’s wedding day! Everyone was so excited that there were sparks in the air!

I have known Alexa and Mike for almost as long as they have been together, which brings us to about 5 years! I’ve watched their relationship go from a budding romance to a full on epic love story! Everyone has known that Alexa and Mike were a perfect match for a long time, but they were careful and wanted to make the right choices in their relationship while keeping God as numero uno! I am so impressed by how they’ve gone about their relationship. I know that their wedding day is only the beginning of one of the best love stories that I’ll get to witness!

Along with the amazing energy in the air, Alexa & Mike’s wedding day had a deep deep love that combined with the electricity created an emotional event that I even cried at! I managed to make it through the whole ceremony, but as soon as they started walking down the isle the waterworks started to flow! After that moment everything was a joyful dance in celebration! We danced in the formal pictures and we rocked out at the reception! It was truly a¬†buoyant¬†celebration! Thank you so much Alexa and Mike! I feel so honored to have captured your day! I can’t wait to watch your story unfold!

How did your fiance propose?
Well it was my birthday the day before, but he wanted to carry it over to Saturday. We started out by going to breakfast that morning, then we went up to the fish hatchery up north (random stop that we decided we wanted to do ) We went to Salmon river falls, one of the first places we went while dating, and then up to Southwick beach, where we first met. He originally said at the beginning of the day he wanted to do a picnic. And by the time we got to the beach, he wanted to walk around first, so he held my hand and we started walking and he was reminiscing about the first time we met. It was beautiful evening, sun was going to be setting and the water was glistening. We walked a little more talking, he turned around to me, and popped the question. I was totally blown away!! It was so sweet, and the day was so great!!! The way he did it was very much us I loved it and wouldn’t have changed a thing
Tell me a bit about the planning process for your wedding (how did you pick the venue, colors, funny stories, etc..):
The planning process wasn’t too bad actually, I had alot of help from my mama and my mother-in-law. In the beginning it was a little stressful picking things out, but down the line it got a little bit better making decisions I started out thinking I would do red and yellow as my colors, but that didn’t last too long, I ended up picking cobalt blue and yellow as my two colors. I just wasn’t set on the red and yellow, but knew I wanted to include yellow. And it turned out blue and yellow are my two favorite colors! I don’t even remember exactly how we picked Justin’s, I know that we were checking different venues, and my good friend Morgan was having her wedding reception at Justin’s as well. So we ended up meeting up Heather MacArthur, the wedding coordinator at Justin’s, and we really liked it so we went with them, and they did a FANTASTIC job!!! I’d recommend them to anyone.
What was the most memorable moment(s) of your day?
I have different ones I can think of, being with my bridesmaids beforehand was special spending time praying and getting ready. Another memorable moment was being up on stage with Michael for the ceremony. Thank Jesus I was calmer than I thought I was going to be! which was so great. But two of the most memorable for me that day, was going around with Michael and saying hello and thank you for coming to our family and friends. Thats definitely an important thing to him and I, and we were/are so thankful to God that he had/has given us these family and friends in our lives and to celebrate with us on that day. One other special moment was singing to my mama. So very glad that I did because I was hesitant because of nerves and timing etc. but thankful that it ended up happening!
Funniest memory from your wedding day? The one that I can think of right now would be the bouquet toss. I literally went from crying because of singing to my mom RIGHT into the bouquet toss haha The first toss I faked throwing it, and then the second toss I did really end up throwing it. I loved that and have to say that was one of the things I was looking forward to out of the whole day (we should also note that Alexa’s toss¬†bouquet¬†was actually several¬†Bouquets¬†tied together so when she threw them they fell a on multiple people confusing them and making for hilarious pictures – Mabyn)
If you had to do it all over again would you change anything?
No I don’t think I would change anything that I can think of
Any advice for future bride & grooms?
Try as much as you can to take in that day, it goes by SO SO quick!! But even more than that, which is something my husband told me and its so true! Its not the day that makes the marriage. Marriage is an everyday thing!! Love is selfless.
What was your favorite part about working with Mabyn Ludke Photography?
Well besides the fact that she is AMAZING and AWESOME, she is a dear friend to the both of us!! She made it fun, and probably more comfortable than it would have been because sometimes you can definitely get nervous, at least I do! She does such a wonderful job and she is so sweet. Favorite part about working with her, we got to work with our friend, and take part in her wonderful gift in photography.
