Welcome to my blog! I'm thrilled to be able to share with you my favorite images from weddings, engagements, maternity, and more! Grab a cup of coffee and get snuggly cuz this blog will give you all the feels!
Hooray! You’re engaged and you’ve fully emerged in all things in the wedding world! That means it’s time for your engagement shoot. There are a ton of elements to making the most out of your engagement session. We’ll take you through them all. Last time, we talked about some of the best locations in NC for your engagement session. Now that you have a location, are you worried about how to choose an outfit for your engagement session? Today we’re going to focus on how to pick an outfit for your engagement photos!
Once you’ve chosen a location(s) for your engagement session, then it’s time to think of an outfit that matches that scene. Shooting in downtown Charlotte? Then maybe, a classic glam look would be appropriate. Are you snuggling up at a cabin in the woods? A camping look would work.
Sometimes it’s okay to flip things around a bit and contrast your look with the location. Sometimes adding a dramatic dress & suit to a mountaintop makes the session even more epic than before!
Some couples like to coordinate their color schemes for their outfit. This can be done by adding similar tones to each other’s looks without being “matchy-matchy.” Think balance. Take the photo below for example. They’re both wearing blue tones. Grace’s striped dress is bolder and compliments Reed’s pale blue shirt while still being balanced with those dark blue jeans.
In the second photo, you’ll see that Katherine’s printed dress has pink floral accents which plays nicely off of Simon’s pink shirt.
I know this tip sounds weird. How could you not be you, but you’d be surprised. Some couples think they have to look a certain way in their engagement photographs. Maybe, this is because mom & dad have given you their opinions on it. Perhaps, you’ve seen a friends session & loved it so much you wanted to try out something similar. Choose clothing that does not only make you feel like your best self but, also expresses who you are. When you look back at your photographs all you’ll see is your authentic self deeply in love!
This ties into the above tip. If you’re going to take the time to plan outfits & get all decked out for your session, then make sure you’re showing off a bit! Take this as an opportunity to flaunt what you love about yourself! We promise you’ll feel even more amazing during & after the session for it!
Having a few options to wear at your session is helpful. Especially, if you’re planning multiple locations. This helps shift the feel of your photographs. You can go from fun to romantic, casual to glam, comfortable to a fun theme. The list is endless! This also gives you a bit of a fail-safe in case your opinion of the outfit changes. Clothes can photograph differently than we initially envision. Multiple outfits during the session will give you lots of wonderful options!
– Bring extra shoes – Especially if we’re going to do a lot of walking or hiking! You can always change into the shoes you want to shoot in when we get to the location.
– Dress in layers – You can always take away layers to create a different look. It’s also helpful for a quick change if there’s no changing room available.
– Rent something fabulous – Want a great new outfit but, don’t want to spend a ton of cash? Check out www.Renttherunway.com for all sorts of gorgeous goodies to rent!
– Have FUN! – Regardless of what you wear, it’s our job to make you look & feel amazing! So at the end of the day, just be you and enjoy your time together! We’ve got this!
As hurricane Matthew is making it’s way up the coast, this sweet couple is preparing for the biggest weekend of their lives. Cari & Amol’s wedding will prove to be amazing no matter the weather. With Ladybird Events at the helm and this couple’s families in attendance, no hurricane can put a damper on this couple’s excitement to be married at the Grandover in Greensboro, NC.
Speaking of excitement, I was SO excited that Cari & Amol wanted to have their engagement session in Washington DC where they both live. We spent a sunny evening exploring the historic monuments of the National Mall and then as the sun went down we ventured over to Georgetown for some seriously awesome alleyways and cobblestone streets! It was interesting shooting at the National Mall where hundreds if not thousands of people visit every day. Tons of people make it difficult to make the setting feel intimate and special, however I’ve yet to back down from a challenge and somehow managed to pull it off! Of course it doesn’t hurt that Cari & Amol are completely head over heals! The way they look at each other just melts everything else away!
I’m so thrilled to be able to hang out with the two and their guests for the next two days and celebrate their love!
The National Mall was hoppin’!
Here’s a unique way to answer some of the questions I’ve been getting. I’d love to get your feedback and your help! Check out the video below! Thanks!
Nadia & Mike’s You + Me Session! Featuring the Deserted Attic!
Amanda & Matt’s Aurora Love Story!
When I first met Liz & Mike it was like we’d been long lost friends finally united! We sat in Starbucks who knows how long getting to know each other and chatting about everything! So when their You + Me session came along I was already excited! We had a great time continuing our conversations, snapping a few amazing shots at Le Moyne and Sky Top, and playing with their ADORABLE dog Maverick! It was probably one of the hottest days of the summer, but you’d never know it looking at these pictures…or maybe they’re what made it so hot?! OUCH! That was a good one eh? 😉 I know…I know…could I be any dorkier?
Dorkiness aside, Liz & Mike are wonderful & so so SO in love! Plus it doesn’t hurt that they’re ridiculously good looking…I mean really…go get in a magazine already! Ok enough of me gushing over these guys, go look at the pictures! :p
