As an artist, one of the highest compliments I can receive is having another artist book me to shoot their wedding. There’s a mutual understanding and respect for ones work, time, and effort. On top of that, their weddings tend to be VERY creative and fun! Right up my alley!

Mariel is a visionary and creates stunning work through graphic design. She even designed & printed her own invitations! Talk about incredible! She and Jamie are a wonderful blend of joy, humor, and love. I just had so much fun talking with them and could do it for hours! When their wedding day rolled around, I was so thrilled to walk into the Frog Pond and see Mariel’s vision come to life. We artists tend to go a little overboard in the DIY section, and although Mariel is no exception, she knows when to hire good people to help bring her vision to life. This is where MLH Events comes in. Megan of MLH Events, took Mariel’s dream and made it a flawless reality! The whole day dripping with gorgeous details and moved with a perfectly timed grace.

I can ensure you that everyone at Mariel & Jamie’s wedding had a fantastic time! Even my rockin’ team and I couldn’t help but put our cameras down at the end of the night and tear the dance floor up a bit! Thank you to Mariel & Jamie for trusting me to capture your vision & dream. It was absolutely spectacular!

XOXOXO,
Mabyn

This is the first time I actually brought along my OWN cinematographer! That’s right ladies & gents, Gina shot her first ever wedding! I’m not sure she’ll be continuing to do more, but I can tell you that she’s done 3 this season and loves them! It’s amazing what can happen in just a few short months. I’m so excited for Gina and her new found talent, she shot & edited Mariel & Jamie’s Love Story with out an ounce of help. I can’t say she’s for hire yet, but who knows what can happen in the 2014 wedding season?! ūüôā Congrats Gina!

How did your fiance propose?
Jamie proposed on his birthday in order to catch me off guard. We went to Asti for dinner which wasn’t planned thanks to me being sick and asking him to abort our other dinner plans in¬†Skaneateles.¬†When we arrived at Asti we were seated by a fireplace in a private room upstairs. Jamie had put the ring on his pinky finger when I wasn’t looking and proceeded to drink his wine until I noticed a sparkly object. I thought I was¬†hallucinating¬†from my cold medicine but when I realized I wasn’t, the rest was history. I¬†was¬†completely¬†surprised.
Tell me a bit about the planning process for your wedding (how did you pick the venue, colors, funny stories, etc..):
Since I’m a graphic designer the planning process was hard because I’m full of too many ideas. We knew we wanted a venue that we could have enough time for artistic freedom and that would also be private which is why we picked The Frog Pond.¬†The theme of our wedding was story telling and we choose when at all possible to use local vendors first.
What was the most memorable moment(s) of your day?
The moment we read our personal vows to each other and later on seeing all of our friends and family be together in the same place celebrating. We witnessed people who never dance, dance. It was as if the quote we’ve seen so many times before was happening the day of our wedding.¬†‚ÄúDance as though no one is watching you,¬†Love as though you have never been hurt before,¬†Sing as though no one can hear you,¬†Live as though¬†heaven is on earth.”
Funniest memory from your wedding day?
When we lost Jamie in the woods before the first look was pretty funny. Also the fact that the¬†groomsmen had no idea how to put suspenders on. My dad had to help all the “men” get ready ūüôā
If you had to do it all over again would you change anything?
I might have purchased my letterpress sooner so I could have printed additional items for the wedding ūüôā
Any advice for future bride & grooms?
Do a first look! It was the best decision we made to ease our nerves. It was nice to have a moment to each other without everyone around. My other advice would be no matter what hire an event planner especially for the day of the wedding. MLH Events was amazing and Megan went above and beyond in carrying out my vision for the day. I was able to get ready and know that everything was going to look and be perfect. Lastly,¬†I would say don’t let Pinterest overwhelm you take a few ideas that you really love and tackle those and if you have time for other ideas go ahead. Don’t feel as though you have to do it all.
What was your favorite part about working with Mabyn Ludke Photography?
Mabyn is amazing! She is truly a professional and went above and beyond on our wedding day! Her work speaks for itself and she is a master of her craft. Mabyn captures moments in time so naturally and her love of details is impeccable.

After Jen and Dan’s wedding day I remember talking with several other wedding photographers. They all lamented about how that day was a washout and they couldn’t do the outdoor pictures/ceremonies that they loved. Well let me tell you something, favor looked down upon Jen and Dan’s particular wedding day!
I kept track of the radar and it was literally like God put up his own umbrella over Glenora Winery! Everywhere else had severe thunder storms and we had these epic gray skies with the sun peeking through! It was PERFECT!

Now Jen and Dan themselves are some of the most laid back and care free people you’ll ever meet! Everything was a celebration that day! I don’t think we stopped cracking jokes or laughing at someone’s antics at all! Amy and I had a fantastic time laughing, capturing moments, and dancing the night away! Thank you Jen and Dan for allowing us to capture your epic wedding day! We love you!

xoxoxo,
Mabyn

How did your fiance propose? Dan is not a man of many words and not a huge surprise person. We had talked about it for a while back and forth, deciding if we should, if it was a good time between trying to buy the house and probably having to put work into it. During this time he had been looking at rings and secretly buying one. So one morning while I was in the kitchen making him lunch for the day (he drives truck and works crazy hours) he comes out and just asks! Completely surprised and unexpected. Just us in our normal routine, it was perfect for us.
Tell me a bit about the planning process for your wedding (how did you pick the venue, colors, funny stories, etc..): Dan and I love wine and doing wine tours, so what better place than a winery. I had originally picked Ventosa winery for my venue, but they did not have any of the dates we were going for, so after some searching we found Glenora Winery. It was perfect with awesome people, beautiful scenery, and hotel with it so our guests would have someplace to stay, as well as us! After we picked our date all of the rest just fell into place, the colors the flowers, and the theme. I had a wonderful florist that I told her the colors I wanted to use and what I didn’t like and she had awesome ideas and I let her have her way with her creative flow and I was so happy I did let her go. One of our best times (although there were many in the planning process) was when we went for our taste testing at Glenora it was Dan and I, my parents, my matron of honor Karen and her husband Mike all went for it, we had so much fun at the tasting that we stayed and had dinner and drinks and had a wonderful time just hanging out and relaxing with everyone.
What was the most memorable moment(s) of your day? We had a 4 oclock ceremony time and that was the best decision we made, the girls and I were able to get up have breakfast together and just relax with no rushing or anything. I couldn’t have asked for better ladies to stand and share these days with than Lindsay and Karen, they were fantastic. I also was not expecting Dan to get me anything on our wedding day as a gift so I was totally surprised that he had conspired with my matron of honor Karen and got me a beautiful and simple silver heart necklace and a sweet poem that he had come up with on his own. Something I never would have expected from him.
Funniest memory from your wedding day? Was when I was suppose to be repeating my vows to my husband and I totally said the wrong words and left a few out. The judge asked if I wanted to start over I said no way! Lets keep it going.
If you had to do it all over again would you change anything? No, I loved everything about it. We had a wonderful day and great time dancing the night away.
Any advice for future bride & grooms? If it goes wrong or something gets forgotten, oh well, it doesn’t change what the end result of the day is suppose to be about. Just relax and have fun with the process.
What was your favorite part about working with Mabyn Ludke Photography? She is very easy to work with and is everywhere you want her to be without you even asking. I was very excited when we booked her and even more excited that day to have her there with us. The family loved her as well. I will definitely be using her in the future for other things in life when they come about, she was that wonderful to be around. She flows with changes and makes you feel very comfortable. I also have to give props to Amy who was there that day with her, she handled the guys well, she’s a trooper!

Wooooweee!! October has just been crazy with all sorts of meetings, photo shoots, and trips. I blinked and it was November! It looks like there’s no end in sight either, which is GREAT! I apologize for leaving you all blogless last week. As my last post so aptly put it, sometimes life just gets in the way of the things your really want to do! Like tell you all about my amazing experiences and the people I meet along the way.

Speaking of two such people, I want you all to get to know Jamie & Peter! I knew when I shot their You + Me session back in March (you crazy kids you! ;oP) that we were going to have a blast on their wedding day! My gut didn’t¬†steer¬†me wrong, their wedding day was an event for the books! I met Jamie in her hotel room at the Doubletree where she set aside a good chunk of time for bridals, Jamie got to channel her inner Tyra Banks and boy did she work it! We then ventured off to St. Matthews Church in East Syracuse for their heart felt ceremony. My favorite part of the day is where we had 3 hours inbetween the ceremony & reception to…you guessed it…TAKE PICTURES! Hooray!!! So we jaunted around the downtown Syracuse area for awhile and still managed to get back to the Doubletree well before the cocktail hour had started. Jamie & Peter were up for everything! They even helped me fulfill a dream shot that I’ve had in my head for over a year now! It’s one of my favorite shots of the season! Thanks guys!

The cocktail hour started off with one of Jamie’s friends, a professional Broadway singer, serenading the couple & guests with his melodious voice. I got a little carried away myself, it was beautiful! Then Jones Tones rocked the Doubletree late into the night. I had a great time capturing all of Jamie & Peter’s amazing moments. Thank you so much for choosing me! I’m so glad to have clients as amazing as you guys that I can now call you friends! ūüôā

xoxoxo,
Mabyn

How did you meet?
We met at a going-away party for a coworker, and we realized that we had worked together for 2 years and had never met! That night I sent Pete a message on MySpace and gave him my number. He called the next day!
How did your fiance propose?
After going to dinner at the restaurant where we had our first date, Pete took me to Lights on the Lake, and he pulled over at the end and got down on one knee in the snow and popped the big question!
Tell me a bit about the planning process for your wedding (how did you pick the venue, colors, funny stories, etc..):
We had a looong time to plan (a year and 9 months), so we booked all the major things very early on and then got to relax, which was so nice! I must have dragged Pete to meetings with about 10 different photographers before I found Mabyn and Tim, and it was love at first sight of their work!
What details at your wedding had special significance?
The cake knife/server set was actually used by my parents at their wedding and had been engraved with their names. A close friend of my family had the set engraved on the other side with our names, and now we have a beautiful family heirloom!
What was the most memorable moment(s) of your day?
Walking down the aisle and seeing Pete waiting for me…the love I felt at that moment was overwhelming!
If you had to do it all over, would you change anything?
Not a thing!
Funniest memory from your wedding day?
My nephew/ring bearer Luke doing the sprinkler dance when he was introduced! Hysterical!
What was your favorite wedding purchase?
Hands down, our amazing photographers and videographer! Our day will be remembered forever because of them!
Where did you go on your honeymoon?
Negril, Jamaica
Any advice for future bride & grooms?
Just enjoy every single moment of the process. Even when things get stressful, just remember that no matter what happens or how things turn out, you will have the love of your life standing next to you…it doesn’t get any better than that!
