Jen and Sean are lovers of the unique! Their wedding was a mix of whimsy, color, and FUN! The Belhurst castle was such a perfect setting for this Philly couple. You may remember their You + Me session when I went to visit them in their home town! They gave me the grande tour of some of their favorite Philly spots! So you can imagine my excitement when I drove up to the Belhurst and got to give Jen a HUGE hug! The day proceeded beautifully! The sun was shining and people seemed content watching this happy couple tie the knot, despite the heat! They even had this great bluegrass band provide the music during their ceremony which was the perfect touch

! Once they were officially wifey and hubby we spent some time with the family and bridal party but we wanted to save the super special couple shots until the sun went down a bit more. I live for that yummy buttery light, and their formals are the perfect example of why! Their party was amazing! I shouldn’t have expected anything less from them. They danced and danced and danced and I had so much fun out on the floor with them! It’s couples like Jen and Sean that make my job so worth it. Not only are they so in love that it makes it easy to take gorgeous pictures of them, but I feel like we’ve been friends for ages! That alone is worth it’s weight in gold! I get to spend my days capturing beautiful moments of my friends happiest days! I will never stop being so thankful to do this every day! ūüôā

How did your fiance propose? Sean proposed while we were vacationing¬†in Ogunquit, Maine in August 2010. We were aboard the “Silverlining”¬†sail boat for a sunset cruise when he pulled an envelope out of our
picnic basket. The envelope contained a poem that Sean had written (I¬†had no idea that Sean could write poetry!) called “Finding the¬†Right Girl.” At the end of the poem, Sean presented a gorgeous¬†filagree ring!
Tell me a bit about the planning process for your wedding (how did you pick the venue, colors, funny stories, etc..): The colors for the wedding were inspired by what I imagined the forest in “A Mid Summer
Night‚Äôs Dream‚ÄĚ to look like. We also wanted the wedding to feel like¬†‚Äúus.‚ÄĚ We used a lot of our own items and items belonging to our¬†families in the d√©cor. We picked Belhurst Castle because it had¬†beautiful grounds and it (and Geneva) offered our guests who were¬†traveling a place to congregate together and enjoy the beauty of¬†Upstate, NY.
What was the most memorable moment(s) of your day? Walking down the¬†aisle and seeing Sean for the first time on our wedding day! This¬†moment was made even sweeter by the music that was provided by my¬†talented friends, Jess & Jess who sang a gorgeous version of ‚ÄúTime¬†after Time.‚ÄĚ
Funniest memory from your wedding day? My parents had two bats flying around their room the night before the wedding-it wasn’t so funny for them at the time, but we get a kick out of it now!
If you had to do it all over again would you change anything? Nothing
What was your favorite part about working with Mabyn Ludke Photography? We loved each of our interactions with Mabyn! She was professional, creative and can create magic with her camera and her
eye for photos! We especially loved that she was willing to come to Philly for our engagement shoot- we had a blast & have so many wonderful photos of the spots where Sean and I fell in love.

Central NY is such a beautiful place to live. I know a lot of people who complain about living here…mainly due to the snow…but I’ll take a few months of the fluffy white stuff in exchange for all of the beauty available with just a short car ride away! Amanda and Matt felt the same way when they started planning their wedding.

When their actual wedding day arrived I was so excited! Finally I got to meet this amazing couple in person AND at one of my favorite venues! The EB Morgan House in Aurora, NY. I loved the whole idea of their day, a small intimate wedding with family, close friends, beautiful views, and AMAZING food! The EB Morgan House was a perfect choice!

When I got there and I finally got to meet Amanda and Matt face to face, we instantly clicked…and not just with my camera…ha ha ha…I know…I’m a dork!
The whole day was an absolute dream! The weather was gorgeous, so was my couple, and they were up for picture after picture! I was mostly taken aback by the feeling of their day. The warmth and love of their family and friends surrounding them was so thick you could literally cut it! I was brought to tears myself by several of the toasts that were given at their reception. Plus they made me feel like I was part of the family. I can’t tell you how many times someone checked on me, offered me food, or just wanted to chat. I have never felt so welcomed by a family I’ve never met before. It was so touching! I can’t thank Amanda and Matt enough for choosing me as their photographer! I was truly and an honor and a joy to be present and document such genuine and beautiful love!

xoxoxo,
Mabyn

P.S. I absolutely LOVE Amanda’s advice for future Brides & Grooms! Make sure you check it out in the interview section!
How did you meet?
Matt was in graduate school for Psychology at West Virginia University, and Amanda was an applicant for the program. They met on “interview weekend”, when Matt was Amanda’s host while she was in town.
How did your fiance propose?
We actually proposed to each other. We designed Amanda’s ring from scratch (picking out the diamond, planning the setting) with a jeweler, and we picked out a ring for Matt then too — it had a “wheat” engraving pattern, which was Amanda’s maiden name. When the rings were ready, we picked them up and took a moment at home to propose to each other, sharing why we were choosing each other to spend the rest of our lives with… Then we topped it off with a fancy dinner at a favorite Italian restaurant and a weekend in Boston.
Tell me a bit about the planning process for your wedding (how did you pick the venue, colors, funny stories, etc..):
Neither of us was tied to getting married in our home towns, so we figured we’d do a bit of a destination wedding. We immediately thought of the Finger Lakes region because all it had to offer for our guests — wineries, museums, fishing, great restaurants, etc. We literally googled “wedding in Finger Lakes” and the EB Morgan House was one of the first links. We used checking the venue out as an excuse for taking a vacation with our families, and we fell in love with it as a ceremony and reception site. For colors, we wanted them to be meaningful and warm. We incorporated purple and green, as these were favorite colors of our late grandmothers. We wanted them to be represented in some way during our wedding day.¬†We just took all the planning piece by piece, and it helped to keep things low stress that we chose to have a small (46 people) wedding. With the help of family members in planning so many aspects of the wedding, it really made things so easy!
What details at your wedding had special significance?
It was incredible to have Matt’s brother, Zack, lead the ceremony for our wedding. We wanted the person marrying us to be someone who we were really close to and who is an integral and important part of our lives. Zack was the first to come to mind, and he luckily agreed!
What was the most memorable moment(s) of your day?
Seeing each other during our first look session with you was pretty amazing… We had spent the night apart, and the day had been filled with wedding preparation. It was overwhelming (in a good way) to finally get to see each other.¬†We welcomed everyone to give a toast after we cut the cake, rather than opting for formal, planned toasts. We had no idea how many of our friends and family would step forward and share such funny stories, kind words, and well wishes. It was so amazing to have so many supportive people present and vocal.
If you had to do it all over, would you change anything?
We would get a videographer so we could have a record of the toasts forever. Finally, Amanda had a good friend, Piercen Oliver, play Ben Folds’ “The Luckiest” on the piano for Matt as a surprise. It’s always been a song we’ve sort of considered “our song”, if any is. It was so incredible to have Piercen play it for us, and it was great that Matt was surprised!
Funniest memory from your wedding day?
It was so unexpected, but several friends and family members shared some hilarious memories during the toasts… Too many to recount here! Just details on random and ridiculous things we have done throughout our lives
What was your favorite wedding purchase?
Probably the rings… We picked them out together and it’s nice to have a daily reminder of our commitments to each other — especially when we’re not living in the same state together!
Where did you go on your honeymoon?
We haven’t yet!… We’re considering New Orleans in the Spring.
Any advice for future bride & grooms?
It’s cliche, but be sure to relax and enjoy the process, keeping in mind what the whole reason for having a wedding is… There are a million details you can get lost in, and it’s all for naught if you can’t take time to appreciate each other and your reasons for choosing to get married in the company of the people closest to you.

¬†Amanda & Matt’s first look was sooooo sweet and the EB Morgan House made for the perfect back drop!

What do you get when you mix, good looks, charm, and ridiculousness in one couple? You get Liz and Mike, two of the coolest people on the planet!!! Seriously, when we met in Starbucks about a year ago we¬†instantaneously¬†became friends! I know I’m repeating myself from their You + Me post, but I fell in love with these guys so I can’t help but gush! ūüėČ

Finally, their wedding day came along! I’d only been waiting alllll season for it! And after a gorgeous September, what happens? Their day was 50 degrees and rainy!
Now the average couple might get really upset and worry that the rain will ruin their day. Not Liz & Mike! They were totally down for any and all outdoor shots, rain or shine! Is it any wonder I fell in love?! So they not only braved the rain, but cold and broken dresses as well! Yeah! ¬†I know right? They’re completely amazing!

One of a bride’s biggest nightmares is something happening to the dress right before the wedding. Well guess what happened right before the wedding? The zipper on her dress fell off! Did Liz freak out? Did she throw a fit? NOPE! Calm as a cucumber we called Spybaby Boutique and their amazing seamstress fixed the dress in 20 minutes flat! (Cue Superman music here!) We still had plenty of time to get her to the church!

The rest of the day went as smooth as butter, with crazy interloods of Mike jumping in puddles or bench pressing Liz! The reception at Dinosaure BBQ was rockin’ as always! I especially loved when Liz, Mike, and their wedding party jumped up on stage and started throwing beads like it was Mardi Gras!
Thank you Liz and Mike for choosing me to, not only capture your special moments, but become your friend!

Bride & Groom: How did you meet?
We met during orientation at Le Moyne College. Mike’s roommate went to my high school.
How did your fiancé propose?
I had just finished my last final exam of my second year at SU Law and we were excited about leaving for a two week vacation in Italy the next morning. I was craving ice cream so we stopped at Gannon‚Äôs Isle in the Valley, but it was chilly so after we got our ice cream we got back in the car and started driving around. Mike drove up to Le Moyne and we finished our ice cream on a bench outside Grewen. This seemed pretty ordinary to me because when the weather is nice, Mike and I sometimes venture up to the benches in front of Grewen Hall at Le Moyne College to talk. This particular night was rather chilly, but Mike and I sat there talking about how excited we were for our trip. Then, out of the blue, Mike says that he doesn‚Äôt want me to think that he is going to propose in Italy. I was speechless for a moment since I wasn‚Äôt expecting him to. Mike kept talking and suddenly pulls out a ring box, gets on one knee and says that he doesn‚Äôt want to ask me in Italy because he wants to ask me right then and there! I was shocked and of course, I said yes ÔĀä
Tell me a bit about the planning process for your wedding (how did you pick the venue, colors, funny stories, etc..):
Mike and I really like food, especially barbeque, and we wanted a more casual wedding reception. Dinosaur Bar-B-Que was a logical choice and once we saw the Upstairs room we were sold on our wedding venue.
What details at your wedding had special significance?
My dad put together a ‚ÄúLove Chest‚ÄĚ based upon an old Italian tradition. About one week before the wedding, my dad asked me and Mike to write letters to each other. The letters were sealed and my father placed them in the box along with a bottle of wine and two glasses. The box has two keys, one for each of us. The box can only be opened on two occasions: (1) on our tenth wedding anniversary or (2) if we ever happen to hit a rocky patch, the box can be opened so that either of us can read the letter we wrote to the other.
What was the most memorable moment(s) of your day?
When the zipper on my dress broke as I was getting in it Рvery shortly before we were supposed to leave for the Church! I will never forget how amazing my bridesmaids were and the great suggestion that Mabyn made reminding us that Spybaby was right around the corner! Maria, Spybaby’s amazing seamstress, not only fixed the dress, but came back to the hotel to help me get in and button it up! I am positive I witnessed a small miracle!
If you had to do it all over, would you change anything?
Not a thing! I even enjoyed the rain.
Funniest memory from your wedding day?
While we were taking outdoor photos before the reception, it was really chilly and it started to rain a bit. Nate, Mike’s six-year-old nephew, sat in the limo and rolled down the window every few minutes to let us know how warm he was inside the limo.
What was your favorite (or most handy?!)wedding purchase?
Umbrellas! They may not be my favorite, but they really came in handy! I have to give the credit to Mike for finding some cute umbrellas for the ladies.
Where did you go on your honeymoon?
Aruba, we stayed at Bucuti and Tara Resorts. They have a phenomenal beach.
Any advice for future bride & grooms?
It all works out in the end!

Liz was all smiles despite the crazy! She’s so amazing! I especially loved when Mike snuck a quick peek in the room before Liz got dressed.

Wooooweee!! October has just been crazy with all sorts of meetings, photo shoots, and trips. I blinked and it was November! It looks like there’s no end in sight either, which is GREAT! I apologize for leaving you all blogless last week. As my last post so aptly put it, sometimes life just gets in the way of the things your really want to do! Like tell you all about my amazing experiences and the people I meet along the way.

Speaking of two such people, I want you all to get to know Jamie & Peter! I knew when I shot their You + Me session back in March (you crazy kids you! ;oP) that we were going to have a blast on their wedding day! My gut didn’t¬†steer¬†me wrong, their wedding day was an event for the books! I met Jamie in her hotel room at the Doubletree where she set aside a good chunk of time for bridals, Jamie got to channel her inner Tyra Banks and boy did she work it! We then ventured off to St. Matthews Church in East Syracuse for their heart felt ceremony. My favorite part of the day is where we had 3 hours inbetween the ceremony & reception to…you guessed it…TAKE PICTURES! Hooray!!! So we jaunted around the downtown Syracuse area for awhile and still managed to get back to the Doubletree well before the cocktail hour had started. Jamie & Peter were up for everything! They even helped me fulfill a dream shot that I’ve had in my head for over a year now! It’s one of my favorite shots of the season! Thanks guys!

The cocktail hour started off with one of Jamie’s friends, a professional Broadway singer, serenading the couple & guests with his melodious voice. I got a little carried away myself, it was beautiful! Then Jones Tones rocked the Doubletree late into the night. I had a great time capturing all of Jamie & Peter’s amazing moments. Thank you so much for choosing me! I’m so glad to have clients as amazing as you guys that I can now call you friends! ūüôā

xoxoxo,
Mabyn

How did you meet?
We met at a going-away party for a coworker, and we realized that we had worked together for 2 years and had never met! That night I sent Pete a message on MySpace and gave him my number. He called the next day!
How did your fiance propose?
After going to dinner at the restaurant where we had our first date, Pete took me to Lights on the Lake, and he pulled over at the end and got down on one knee in the snow and popped the big question!
Tell me a bit about the planning process for your wedding (how did you pick the venue, colors, funny stories, etc..):
We had a looong time to plan (a year and 9 months), so we booked all the major things very early on and then got to relax, which was so nice! I must have dragged Pete to meetings with about 10 different photographers before I found Mabyn and Tim, and it was love at first sight of their work!
What details at your wedding had special significance?
The cake knife/server set was actually used by my parents at their wedding and had been engraved with their names. A close friend of my family had the set engraved on the other side with our names, and now we have a beautiful family heirloom!
What was the most memorable moment(s) of your day?
Walking down the aisle and seeing Pete waiting for me…the love I felt at that moment was overwhelming!
If you had to do it all over, would you change anything?
Not a thing!
Funniest memory from your wedding day?
My nephew/ring bearer Luke doing the sprinkler dance when he was introduced! Hysterical!
What was your favorite wedding purchase?
Hands down, our amazing photographers and videographer! Our day will be remembered forever because of them!
Where did you go on your honeymoon?
Negril, Jamaica
Any advice for future bride & grooms?
Just enjoy every single moment of the process. Even when things get stressful, just remember that no matter what happens or how things turn out, you will have the love of your life standing next to you…it doesn’t get any better than that!
