Welcome to my blog! I'm thrilled to be able to share with you my favorite images from weddings, engagements, maternity, and more! Grab a cup of coffee and get snuggly cuz this blog will give you all the feels!
In my opinion, there is nothing more lovely and wonderful than when you can be true to yourselves during the wedding planning process, be present on the day, and let your guard down a bit with those you love. When your wedding is an expression of your love, however that may look, your wedding is a massive success. Aine & Joe did this so wonderfully! From the moment we sat down, drank coffee, and introduced them to our furry family, I knew this was going to be a wonderfully unique wedding! We arrived that day eager to see all the ideas and dreams that Aine & Joe had put into action. From the beautiful rustic setting at the Spruce Pine Lodge in Bahama, NC to the tiniest details (like the Lord of the Rings themed font they used for all of the signs!) everything was perfectly Aine & Joe!
Now not every wedding day goes to plan, most of them don’t actually, and Aine & Joe shared a few hiccups of their own. But they took them in stride! We watched them wed on a chilly December afternoon, with their sweet & silly vows, Owl ring bearer, and surrounded by their family & friends. We cheered when they kissed & smiled when the stress of it all just melted away as they walked down the isle for the first time as husband and wife.
Aine & Joe’s reception didn’t follow your normal “formula.” In it’s place they chose to have an evening of geeky & wedding trivia! It was brilliant to watch guests all huddling together at their tables discussing the answers. We heard cheers of victory when their table was right or moans of frustration when someone had given a correct answer but the table had chosen another, I would even whisper in Daniel’s ear when I knew the answer and do my own little victory dance in the corner. Hah! It was such a fun night! They treated their guests to some of the best food truck grilled cheese I’ve ever had in my life (American Meltdown) and toasted as they cut their home made wedding cake. We ended the evening with a private first dance on the back porch, which I recommend to everyone! It was so beautiful! Then with one last hurrah and a prayer that no one caught on fire, we sent them off with a grand sparkler exit!
These are the weddings that just fill you up with such a sense of joy and energy! We just loved being there to capture it all for Aine & Joe and hope we get to go on many many geeky adventures together! Thank you for including us in your world! We love you guys!
XOXOXO,
Mabyn
If this is the first time you’re reading our blog and you’ve never met Daniel & I, this may be news to you. However, if you’ve met us in any capacity for more than 5 minutes you were probably made aware that we’re GIANT geeks! We love everything from super heros to Star Wars and we look forward to hitting up a few local Comic Cons every year. We watch The Flash on the regular, freak out over the latest Avenger movie, and aren’t afraid of a little cosplay. So when our new home town of Statesville, NC decided to host their first ever comic con we were completely stoked!
Then I got an email from our clients Aine & Joe (Click here to see their amazing engagement session!) that they could come over for their wedding premiere on the same day. Normally I would be bummed, because we’d have to choose between one or the other and our clients ALWAYS come first! However in this instance, we could have our cake & eat it too because Aine & Joe are just as big into the geeky world as we are! YAY! So we opted to make a day of it. Aine & Joe came over for their amazing wedding premiere, we at snacks, caught up, and then ventured off to the Statesville Civic Center to experience their first comic con!
For a little con, I was very impressed at how many vendors there were and how many people came out! It was a great crowd of your fanatics, cosplayers, and kids. No, we didn’t cosplay this time around, but I totally rocked my favorite Dr. Who t shirt & Daniel donned his Super Man in honor of our geeky pride. Daniel was very happy to find a few more comic books to his collection, I nabbed a killer metal print of Boba Fett (pic to come soon), and Aine & Joe got their fair share of goodies too. They also had a costume contest and several giveaways that we neglected to enter, but had a blast watching everyone fly their geek flag high!
Over all I think this first round was a complete success! All of the vendors seemed super happy with the turn out and we were too. It was so successful that they’re already planning another one this coming July! We couldn’t be more excited and who knows, maybe this time we’ll be brave enough to cosplay. Daniel & I are really loving Statesville and all of the excitement and growth we’re seeing in this little town that we never expected to call home, but we’re so glad it is!

When you think of an engagement session what pops into your mind? A pretty garden with lots of sunlight & fragrant blooms where the couple smiles dreamily at each other and then back at the camera? Yeah…that’s not what we’ve got here. Prepare yourselves for some seriously delicious awesome sauce!
When Aine & Joe first reached out, they came over to our little apartment and hung out with me for 5 hours! That’s right friends, 5 hours. They win the longest wedding consult ever, but I loved every. single. minute! I kinda wish they didn’t live all the way near Raleigh, because I have a feeling there would be many more of those amazing hang out sessions…like AAAAAAALL the time!
So in getting to know our couples I love to look for connection points, aka things we share in common. Usually Daniel and I share at least one sometimes two things in common, when we reach three I get super giddy because I know we’ll be good friends. Well I’m pretty sure Aine, Joe, Daniel, & I share like 50 things in common! We talked about our geeky passions like Harry Potter & Star Wars, then Daniel & Joe moved easily into their musical passions, while Aine & I talked about our adoration for animals and how we keep collecting them!
When their engagement session finally arrived, I couldn’t help but dance inside as we drove out toward Chapel Hill. We started at Joe’s very cool place of employment, the B-Side Lounge in Carboro, NC. Another wonderful commonality that we share is a love for board games! So they busted out Ticket to Ride and had an amazing time “fake” beating each other at the game. Oh the shenanigans!
The light fades fast in the winter, so as we drove to the next location we did a little sun chasing! We found this amazing spot at the end of a side road that looked just like a path out of the Deathly Hallows! I halted our car and waved frantically for them to stop as well and we managed to snag that sunshine JUST in time before it went down.
Our adventure continued and took us to The Forest Theater in Chapel Hill which provided a perfect seat to read some comic books & make snarky remarks at one another. And what geektastic photoshoot would be complete without an appearance by a Star Wars light saber umbrella?! I think these need to be required at every engagement I shoot now. ?
We did eventually put our cameras down, but we had SO much fun that we couldn’t stop the party! We ended our evening hanging out at one of my personal favorite coffee spots in Chapel Hill, Caffé Driade and talking late into the night! The perfect way to wrap things up!
So when you envision an engagement session…what do you think of now?

Meet my new North Carolina besties, Ariana and Brian! If you follow me in Facebook or Instagram, then you’ve probably see me take numerous selfies with this amazing duo! We’re birds of a Silver Feather! 😉 I just couldn’t resist! The pun was too easy! These guys are the brains, beauty, talent, and just all around awesome behind Silver Feather Studios!
We instantly bonded the first time we met almost a year ago at an end of the season photo party…yes we have those. It wasn’t long before we realized that we all shared some pretty serious geeky addictions (i.e. Dr. Who, Sherlock, Firefly, Divergent, The Hunger Games, and the list goes on and on)! Since then, our friendship has grown as we had our Geeksboro dates with Sherlock, business chats at Crafted, and now Silver Feather have invited me to shoot video with them on some of their weddings! It’s been pretty spectacular working with an amazing team like Ariana and Brian! I am so ridiculously grateful for their friendship and I can’t wait to see where our businesses go now that Ariana is MOVING INTO THE STUDIO! WOOHOO! That’s right, you know what that means, GEEK OVERLOAD ALL THE TIME! *Let the dance party commence!*
Our overall vision is to one day all have a studio space together, can you imagine the awesome that will explode from that space? It’s almost scary!…Almost.
So getting to shoot their new promo pictures for their website was just the icing on the cake. You mean I get to hang out with you more, at geeky location, AND take pictures? Oh twist my arm!
*Sigh* What a perfect day with friends!
XOXOXOXO,
Mabyn
